This new ATM 25.6-Mbps, NM-1ATM-25, network module is designed to connect to an external ADSL modem, allowing branch offices to utilize the high speeds available with an ADSL connection.
Speeds up to 8 Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream can be achieved.
Being standards based, the ATM 25 network module can connect to Cisco ATM-enabled ADSL modems, as well as to other vendors ATM-enabled ADSL external modems.
Benefits of this high-speed connection between branch offices or between a branch office and the Internet include high-speed data transfer and support for new multimedia applications including voice, video, distance learning, and fax applications.
Using an ATM transport allows for ATM application-specific quality of service (QoS) to be used, especially important for the next generation of delay-sensitive multimedia traffic.
